About GameBaker.com

Game Baker is a site that's meant for both beginner and intermediate skilled people interested in game development. We will be hosting (as soon as the lawyers approve) resources from past commercial games that people can use in their non-profit creations, and have regular contests with prizes.

This site is run by members of a (successful, but won't be named) game development studio, and is meant to help increase the quality of games available. The point of this site is for a friendly exchange of ideas and resources, even though it may seem odd to help saturate the market or increase competition. Our main target is the freeware creators, as casual game makers want to keep pumping out Match 3's and retail with their FPS's and MMORPjunk.

The industry lacks innovation and is stagnating. Many development companies hire people that enjoy games/want to make them and drain them dry to produce endless clones of the same games. At the same time, many of the types of games we enjoyed are no longer being made as they didn't perform enough to match the high budgets required by the industry to compete for retail sales.

It is our hope that the industry changes and perhaps helping people find the tools and help they need to create games themselves will make a difference. If not, hopefully we'll help people make some fun games for us to play that aren't part of the endless cycle of clones.

Please note, this site is strict about no piracy and no copyright/trademark infringements. You won't find the usual programs mentioned on freeware game development sites here, as they were never legally released in english or their downloads/resources section is pretty much filled with copyrighted material. However, we have a large selection of other game development engines listed that you can use for free or low-cost.

This will also apply to the projects section once it's available, and things on the message boards promoting pirated programs, ripped graphics/music, emulation/roms, and so forth.
